Today, Hooded Horse, Ubisoft, and Unfrozen revealed the next faction coming to their hit fantasy turn-based strategy title, Heroes of Might and Magic. Known as the Schism, this Lovecraft-inspired group is all about forbidden rituals, ice magic, and tentacles.
Heroes of Might and Magic originally teased the Schism during the Gamescom Indie Showcase last week. Formed by dissenters of the Alvar, this group seeks to find its own solution to the Hive threat, settling in snowy mountains and frozen ravines far from civilization.
The Schism founded a society built on literacy, a rigid hierarchy, and a drive to uncover the lost ancient rites of their Vori ancestors, giving them access to dangerous and powerful magic as a result. They are able to summon hordes of monstrous eldritch creatures and deny their opponents access to their own abilities, suppressing and overwhelming their opponents through sheer numbers and ice magic.
Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era was originally announced at Gamescom in August 2024 as the latest installment in the well-known RPG series that began back in 1995. The title will feature new role-playing mechanics unseen in previous games, a single-player mode, multiplayer and co-op, and an official map editor, allowing players to play and create unique experiences together.
Since the closure of the original developer back in 2003, the series has been owned by Ubisoft, who will serve as publisher alongside Hooded Horse, with Unfrozen coming on as the developer. Heroes of Might and Magic is planned to be released in early access in the Summer of 2025 for PC via Steam. Be sure to check back for more updates on this and other turn-based strategy titles as they are revealed.
