Today, Head of Microsoft Flight Simulator Jorg Neumann was asked to address that question, and explained that the team has not been directly affected.

That being said, he acknowledged the loss of colleagues within Microsoft, which certainly made it a rough time.

He also added that Microsoft Flight Simulator is fully funded for years to come.

“Somebody asked me earlier, so maybe I should just quickly [address this]: has Flight Sim been affected by the news about Microsoft’s staff? The answer is directly no.

Flight Sim is a highly regarded product. Everybody is aware that we have a great community, and all that stuff is great, but we did lose some colleagues, just to say that, so it’s been a rough couple of weeks there, at least.

But at Flight Sim, we are fully funded for years to come, and we’re planning out what we’re going to do with that time.”

Today, the Microsoft Flight Simulator team provided plenty of details about what users can expect from the next couple of updates, which will still be focused on fixes and polish.

Sim Update 3, which has been in beta for a while, is scheduled for a July 29 release, but could slip a bit further. New free content will also be released on August 20 to celebrate Gamescom.

If you’re unfamiliar with the recent round of layoffs that affected Microsoft, approximately 9,000 employees have been reported to have lost their jobs across the organization, including many within game development studios. This was also accompanied by the cancellation of a number of games in the works.
