Heroic Games Corporation finally announced the release date of Ship of Heroes, an MMORPG designed to fill the void left by City of Heroes many years ago.
The game will launch on PC via Steam on August 18, 2025.
Most of the game can be played solo, but players can gather into teams of 10 and raids of up to 50 players, echoing the golden age of MMORPGs.
Another element that will certainly remind many of the olden times of MMOs is the business model, which will require you to buy the game and then pay a monthly subscription fee, something that nowadays is very rare, with Final Fantasy XIV, its predecessor FFXI, and World of Warcraft still holding out to their traditional ways.
There will not be any cash shop, loot boxes, or stat boosters. That is certainly nostalgic and almost refreshing.
A trailer has been released to celebrate the announcement of the release date, and you can watch it below, providing a look at what the game looks like.
Ship of Heroes comes with its own storyline, a very deep character creator worthy of the best superhero MMORPGs, five hero archetypes to choose from, and over 250 powers to make your hero’s gameplay unique.
Harvesting, crafting, and trading are included in the package as you’d expect from this kind of game, and player housing is available, on top of bases for supergroups (the game’s version of a guild).
Before release, the game will undergo a beta with donors who helped the game get to this point, getting priority access. A demo will also be launched afterward, so players will be able to try the game before they buy.
