According to the financial documents related to the period between April and June 2024, the hybrid console has shipped to retailers 143.42 million units in its lifetime.

This means that it has shipped 2.1 million units during the quarter examined. At the moment, we can’t make a direct comparison of the quarterly sales with Sony’s PS5, because the house of PlayStation has not yet announced its own financial results and will do so next week.

We also learn that Nintendo Switch games have shipped 1,266.46 million units, as of June 30, 2024.

The company shared its prediction of Nintendo Switch units expected to be shipped between April 2024 and March 2025, and it’s 13.5 million. The guidance for software sales during the same period is 165 million units.

This forecast did not change from the one announced in May, and if this goal is achieved, it would bring the Switch’s lifetime shipments to 154.82 million by March 31 2025.

Incidentally, we also get an estimate of Nintendo Switch units sold through to customers in the console’s lifetime, and it’s over 140 million units by June 30, 2024.

Looking at Nintendo’s financial results, sales were 246.6 billion yen, down 46.5% year-on-year, while Operating profit was 54.5 down 70.6% year-on-year. Said decline was caused by a year-on-year drop for both Nintendo Switch hardware and software.

Specifically, unit sales for the Nintendo Switch declined 46.3% year-on-year, while unit sales of games declined 41.3% year-on-year.

Of course, this is at least in part due to the fact that we’re comparing this quarter against the one in which Nintendo launched The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom. This is definitely a previous year comparable that is difficult to match or even come close to.

Nintendo also mentions that sales in the same quarter of the previous year were energized by The Super Mario Bros. Movie. This factor, alongside the launch of a title like Tears of the Kingdom, was absent this year.

The press release also included some numbers for specific software sales during the last quarter. Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door shipped 1.76 million units, while Luigiʼs Mansion 2 HD shipped 1.19 million units.

We also learn that Princess Peach: Showtime!, which was released during the previous quarter, passed 1 million units sold and reached 1.3 million units.

If you’d like to hear more about gaming industry financial results, several have already been announced and we have dedicated reports, including Capcom, Koei Tecmo, Microsoft, Electronic Arts, and Konami.
