Today Pearl Abyss hosted its Black Desert Festa event in South Korea, and revealed a new character class for the popular MMORPG, on top of more upcoming content and features.
The biggest news of the day is arguably the reveal of Deadeye, the new character class that will be introduced soon (on December 24 on PC).
What makes her backstory rather unique is that she’s American, and I don’t mean that she’s inspired by America. She’s actually American, specifically from a place called New Victoria inspired by Victoria County, Texas.
Her name is Liv and she is the boss of the “Canary Gang.” She comes from our Earth and she has been isekai-ed to the world of Black Desert. Below you can check out her main trailer providing a glimpse of her backstory.
We also get to see how she fights.
Besides the new character, we also saw new content coming to the game including a new T9 dream horse named Voltarion. It’s themed around lightning and has the skills Lightning Charge and Thunderfall. After a jump, you can dash ahead in mid-air with the first and then slam down on the ground inflicting AoE damage and stun.
It can also blink a short distance during a double jump, but this is not a skill. It’s simply a basic feature.
The concept of the previously introduced hardcore server has also been changed dramatically. It won’t be a server in which death is the end as other hardcore servers.
Players will have only 2 hours every day to enter the server. They will start with basic gear and can gather unique gear and survival points. Killing other players and monsters lets you gain survival points (if you defeat other players you’ll take part of theirs), while death makes you lose some.
Death won’t be the end, as mentioned above, and you can resurrect if you die at a random location as long as you’re within the 2-hour limits. The gear you can find in the Hardcore Server has durability that depletes upon death and cannot be repaired.
Lastly, the developers teased Edana, the demon realm, a new region that will serve as a link between the end of Act 1 of the story of Black Desert and the next act that will span the next 10 years for the game.
You can watch the full livestream below.
Black Desert is available for PC (called Black Desert Mobile) for PS4 and Xbox One (simply called Black Desert) and for iOS and Android (called Black Desert Mobile).
The console version will also get native ports for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in the first half of 2025.
Pearl Abyss is also working on a brand-new action RPG titled Crimson Desert. Unlike what the name would suggest, it’s not directly related to Black Desert.
