The Game Awards 2024 kicked things off on a high note this year, announcing The Witcher 4 with a stunning cinematic reveal trailer featuring Ciri as the next trilogy of the franchise starts.
The trailer showed off Ciri as the main monster slayer as she attempts to save a village girl. Between stunning visuals and stunning voice acting, the cinematic is a good promise for what’s to come.
It will be a single-player, open-world RPG that’s starting a new era for the franchise. The original trilogy following Geralt of Rivia is over, and the new saga now follows his adopted daughter, Ciri. The world looks like it’ll be just as dark and brutal of a fantasy land as the rest of the franchise has been based on the cinematic trailer.
The news of The Witcher 4 isn’t incredibly surprising. In August of this year, CD Projekt Red said that the next Witcher title would be in full production “soon” after particularly strong financial results. The Witcher 4 had been in pre-production for quite some time at that point.
The Witcher 4 is being made in Unreal Engine 5. This isn’t the first time that the franchise has ventured into Unreal Engine 5 — The Witcher Remake is also in the engine. With the upgrade to Unreal Engine 5, The Witcher 4 is trying to be the most immersive open-world game in the franchise.
