Today, during the celebrations for EVO 2024 in Las Vegas, SNK hosted a panel about its upcoming fighting game Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves and the King of Fighters XV, also providing information on further games in development.
The livestreamed panel starred Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Director Hayato Konya, producer Joshua Weatherford, and artist Yoichiro Soeda.
Interestingly, we hear that the recently revealed new character Preecha used to have a “nasty” personality when she was first conceived, but this was changed during development.
Her art design also changed considerably over time, as you can see in the gallery below.
Next, we hear about Vox Reaper. He also had several different versions, but fewer than Preecha. You can check out his prototypes and final design below.
The game is coming in 2025 for PS4, PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S.
Moving on to the currently ongoing The King of Fighters XV, SNK revealed the upcoming special DLC characters, Vice and Mature. Their release is in December 2024 and you can check out the looks below.
Perhaps even more exciting is the confirmation of more projects in development (albeit Weatherford mentioned that they’re “far out” in the future as the developer recruits more staff).
One of them is a new Art of Fighting, which was previously teased in December. The game will feature South Town in “all its seventies glory.”
Another project is an action RPG based on the Samurai Shodown franchise.
If you’re unfamiliar with Art of Fighting, it’s a traditional SNK fighting franchise that debuted in 1992 with Art of Fighting. A sequel was then released in 1994, followed in 1996 by Art of Fighting 3: The Path of the Warrior.
While there have been re-releases in the past, the series has not received any new titles for a long time, and it’s nice to see that SNK has plans to bring it back.
If you’d like to read more fighting game news, earlier today we saw the reveal of new footage of the anime-inspired title Hunter x Hunter Nen x Impact from Bushiroad and Arc System Works.
