Net sales for the whole company were 611,391 million yen, up 21.8% year-on-year. Operating profit was 113,670 million yen, up a whopping 73.6% year-on-year.

Looking at the Digital Business, which includes video games, the growth was even larger. Sales were 228,550 million yen, (up 31.1% year-on-year), while segment profit was 44,703 million yen (up 188.1% year-on-year).

According to the Japanese version of the press release (Bandai Namco traditionally releases only a condensed version without details in English) this is due to the launch of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, which was a hit worldwide. It also propelled the base game to achieve strong sales. Gundam Breaker 4 also enjoyed a “good start.”

In the mobile side of the business, makor apps based on the Dragon Ball and One Piece IPs continued to perform steadily both in Japan and overseas. The new mobile game Gakuen Idolmaster was off to a good start.

Looking at the full fiscal year, the Digital Business is expected to exceed both the results of the previous fiscal year and Bandai Namco’s expectations, with Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero doing “very well” albeit some games developed outside of Japan are suffering from a rough start.

Bandai Namco aims to “build a well-balanced and optimal title portfolio and strengthen its development structure in preparation for the next medium-term plan, while aiming to develop games that meet the expectations of its fans with an emphasis on quality.”

If you’re interested in more financial results, other companies have already announced theirs, including Koei Tecmo, Capcom, Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, Microsoft, Konami, Marvelous, and Nintendo.
