Today, Orbx released not one, but two updates for Volanta, its flight tracking application for flight simulator.

The relevant update was v1.11.1, which brought the real changes (while being smaller than the major v1.11 version that preceded it), while almost immediately after, the developer released a v1.11.2 hotfix to “fix an issue impacting server stability.”

The update brings some quality-of-life changes, including the improvement of autosaves for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, making sure that your aircraft will spawn in the air at the current location.

Another big change is that the map and user profiles can be viewed without logging in, so you can easily link them on social media and other environments.

We also get a bunch of fixes to improve the experience, and below, you can find the full patch notes directly from Volanta’s Discord Server.

Enhancements

  • Volanta flight links, the map and user profiles can now be viewed without logging in at https://fly.volanta.app/.
  • Changed location on aircraft previews from home location to current location and added an icon to indicate if the aircraft is at home.
  • Filtering flights will now also adjust the statistics at the top of the page.
  • Improved autosaves for MSFS 2024 so that the aircraft spawns in the air at the correct location.
  • Adjusted groundspeed line location on flight charts, so it’s less likely to overlap altitude.

Fixes

  • Fixed positions being sometimes skipped when visualized in 3D mode.
  • Fixed a wraparound occurring when crossing the meridian in 3D mode.
  • Fixed icons on the aircraft map not being filtered when the aircraft list is filtered.
  • Fixed flight and aircraft search filters not allowing multiple values separated by commas.
  • Fixed handcrafted scenery filter showing up in every filter on the schedules page.
  • Fixed type recognition for creating aircraft based on the iFly 737 MAX.
  • Fixed real-time tracking focus setting resetting to lost focus.

If you’re unfamiliar with Volanta, it’s a flight-tracking application developed by Orbx that you can download and use for free, including plenty of features on top of the ability to track your flights.

If they want to unlock advanced features, users can opt into a premium subscription, payable monthly or yearly.

The app is platform-agnostic, so it’s compatible with all major simulators, including Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, Microsoft Flight Simulator, X-Plane, DCS World, Prepar3D, and more. It’s currently available on PC, iOS, and Android.

Volanta has also proved to be an interesting way to keep track of what’s happening and what is popular in the flight simulation world. For instance, we recently saw how Volanta unveiled plenty of interesting statistics about the launch of the popular Airbus A380 by FlyByWire.
