The Class 90 at the end of 2025, and followed up with further images at the Season of Reveals event. Now we know that the Train Sim World 6 BR Class 90 Freight Loco add-on will introduce authentic British AC electric freight operations to the game, with a primary focus on the West Coast Main Line (WCML) South route between London Euston and Milton Keynes.

The Class 90 was designed to bring the UK’s electric rolling stock roster up to speed, as widespread electrification had outpaced locomotive construction, with the 87/2 scheme seen as a way to quickly procure an additional fleet of modernised locos based on a proven frame. It ended up being reclassified when the design changed significantly, with the resulting fleet of 50 defining the electric designs built during the BR era.

While the DLC is set to focus heavily on its freight capabilities (hauling shipping containers at 75 mph), the Class 90’s mixed-traffic machine capability to reach upwards of 110 mph is perfect for express passenger work. The locomotive is also designed to use the updated physics engine in Train Sim World 6, including a speed-set driver-assist system to maintain constant speed on long straights.

As with previous add-ons, audio authenticity is a must in Train Sim World 6 BR Class 90 Freight Loco. Players can expect to hear the locomotive’s signature hissing and humming, as well as the distinctive electronic whine produced by its traction control system. On the creative tools front, it will also be compatible with Free Roam, Livery Designer, and Formation Designer, allowing players to use it on other UK routes, such as the East Coast Main Line.

The Class 90 loco add-on liveries will include the following variants, each with minor detail differences, including the relevant locomotive numbers for each livery:

  • DB Cargo (red)
  • DB Cargo (blue)
  • Freightliner (grey)
  • Freightliner (old / green)
  • Freightliner (new / Powerhaul)

Train Sim World 6 BR Class 90 Loco Add-On will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Epic Games Store, and Steam for $17.99 and requires the base game to play.
