Today, Apogee and Trigger Happy Interactive announced that legendary Silent Hill composer and sound designer Akira Yamaoka is a part of the soundtrack for their highly anticipated psychological survival horror title, Total Chaos.

Yamaoka composed a brand new original theme for the Total Chaos called “Cahtarsis.” He is joined on the soundtrack by original Total Chaos mod composers Jason Dagenet and William Braddell, along with Apogee’s music team: Chipper Hammond, Tim Stoney, and Mathieu Hallouin. Together, they’ve crafted an ambient, nightmare-inducing soundscape that blurs the line between music and madness.

Apogee Executive Producer Jeron Moore had the following to say when talking about working with Yamaoka-san on the track:

“Many of us at Apogee have dreamed of working with Yamaoka-san, so when the opportunity came up for him to become involved with our first survival horror title, we jumped at the chance,” said Moore. “Yamaoka-san absolutely understood the assignment. “Catharsis” perfectly captures the emotional journey of Total Chaos’ protagonist. Players will hear Yamaoka-san’s theme woven throughout the game alongside haunting, oftentimes unnerving tracks composed by Jason Dagenet, William Braddell, Chipper Hammond, Tim Stoney, and Mathieu Hallouin, with the full song bookending the journey in the game credits.”

Total Chaos originally began as a total conversion DOOM II mod, and has now become a fully standalone title that features its very own unique spine-tingling atmosphere and an aggressively uneasy tension to rival its inspiration. You can see an official first look at the track, courtesy of GameSpot, below:

The game places players in the abyss of Fort Oasis, a desolate wasteland once considered paradise by its coal-mining community, where a shadow looms over the island, fostering a sense of madness —what can only be described as the feeling of constantly being watched. Demons and monsters lurk around every corner of the island’s heart, trapping anybody daring enough to enter the void, and the only way for you to escape is to shoot and bludgeon everything in sight.

To navigate the island, you’ll need to follow mysterious radio transmissions that take you across the ever-changing setting, all while the protagonist tries to remember and overcome their own troubled past. Total Chaos doesn’t have an exact release date yet, but it is slated to launch before the end of the year.
