In a post dedicated to the announcement, the developers apologized to fans who were looking forward to the release of the full game, stating there were three key reasons as to why they decided to delay. The first is based on feedback, as they’ll be revisiting the full set of features that will be in the games in the hopes of living up to user expectations.

Those new additions will be Steam achievements, Steam record rankings, replay functionality, engine conversion functionality, dynamic water and oil temperature functionality, and hard difficulty mode. While there is no specific timeframe when each will be added, some will come alongside updates in early access while others will be apart of the full release.

Aspects and features that are already in Xtreme Racer will be getting some fine-tuning as well, including AI behavior, polishing UI, re-designing of perk and skill tree, game balancing, and Tuning of rival cars. Lastly, discussions with licensing partners, while close to being finished, still need to be concluded.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer is a racing game set in a sealed-off future Tokyo, tasking players with creating and customizing cars to win races and weave through traffic on the highways that recreate this drifting wonderland. Like other recent racing simulators, a heavy emphasis has been placed on realism, letting you build everything from the ground up in order to become the best racer in Tokyo.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer is currently available on Steam in early access for $39.99.
