Today, Dovetail Games revealed that they’d be partnering with Mattel to make Thomas & Friends: Wonders of Sodor, a brand-new standalone narrative simulation game.
Thomas & Friends: Wonders of Sodor is set to adapt the television show of the same name, featuring eight unique adventures inspired by the show’s original stories. The game will be narrated by one of the series’ original narrators, Mark Moraghan, as fans work alongside Thomas, Diesel, Emily, Gordon, and Percy on the Island of Sodor, running locomotives from Vicarstown to Knapford, freely exploring the island, and tackling puzzles such as the Shunting Truck Challenge.
A Deluxe Edition is also planned for release, which adds James as a playable character, along with four additional adventures around the Island of Sodor, giving fans a first-class ticket to the ultimate Sodor experience.
This is just one of many train adventures that developer and publisher Dovetail Games will add to its extensive portfolio. The studio was originally founded in 2009 as RailSimulator.com Ltd and rebranded as Dovetail Games in 2013. Since then, they’ve become known as the leading name in the simulation industry for rail, transport & digital tabletop video game simulations for leading PC and console platforms.
Its most notable current series is Train Sim World, which has released multiple games, including the recently highly successful Train Sim World 6, which features dozens of expansions across the world, totaling hundreds of hours of unique content to explore. Train Sim World 5 even released its own Thomas & Friends add-on in 2024, which likely led to them being brought on as the developer and publisher for this title.
While there is no set release date for Thomas & Friends: Wonders of Sodor yet, it can currently be Wishlisted on Steam. For more information on this and other train simulation content, be sure to check back to Simulation Daily for news and updates.
