In celebration of One Piece Day, WIT Studio showcased new information about the newly announced remake of Eiichiro Oda’s beloved action manga and anime. Alongside a new title, The One Piece, the upcoming remake will get an entirely new staff, including a new director, Masashi Koizuka.

Masashi Koizuka is best known for his work as Director and artist for Attack on Titan. He was the lead on 33 episodes between 2013 and 2019, which coincides with the three seasons in which WIT Studios was responsible for animating the series. Alongside Attack on Titan, the production studio is also responsible for hits such as Ranking of Kings, Spy × Family, and the first season of Vinland Saga.
The original One Piece anime, which is still airing, has been animated by Toei Animation since it first aired in 1999. Since then, the show has had 10 different directors, with some cycling in and out of episodes and co-directing others. The first was Kōnosuke Uda, and the most recent is Yasunori Koyama.
