Astro Bot Wins Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024 – Check Out All the Winners

The Game Awards Statue Side

The Game Awards 2024 has just concluded, and while many watch it for the news and the spectacle, its actual awards have also been assigned.

If you did not manage to watch the livestream while it was happening, we have compiled a full list of winners for your perusal.

The Game of the Year award went to Astro Bot, which defeated Balatro, Black Myth: Wukong, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, and Metaphor: ReFantazio.

If you’re wondering, DLCs are eligible to win awards (including Game of the Year) this year, in a rule change that some felt was a bit bespoke.

Incidentally, you can also take a look at the list of nominees to see who was in the running for the awards.

Without further ado, I leave you with the news.

It’s worth mentioning that the winners of The Game Awards are selected mostly by a jury composed of media and influencers (or industry specialists for selected awards). They decide 90% of the results, while only 10% is determined by a popular vote.

This is different from the recent Golden Joystick Awards, which let the popular vote determine the entirety of the result. Your mileage may vary on which solution better represents the best and brightest in the industry.

Of course, this doesn’t apply to the Player’s Voice Award, which is decided entirely via popular vote.

If you’re wondering, previous winners include Baldur’s Gate 3 (2023), Elden Ring (2022), It Takes Two (2021), and The Last of Us Part II (2020).
