The finals of the Punishment 3 Tekken 8 tournament have concluded, crowning their champion, leemishima from Argentina.
Daniel “leemishima” Martinez came up on top using Lidia Sobieska after basically dominating the Top 8 matches, with only Peruvian player Roy “Roynichi” Herrera managing to score a set against him in the Winners Semifinals.
The Grand Final was against another Peruvian pro, Abel “Abel del Maestro” Segovia using Eddy Gordo, with leemishima coming from winners final triumphing with a striking 3-0.
Hosted in the Bolivian capital La Paz, Punishment 3 is the second to last Master event of the Tekken World Tour following Emirates Showdown 2024 (which happened last week in Dubai), with only Thaiger Uppercut 2024 left to be celebrated. It’ll happen on October 5 and 6 in Thailand.
The top 20 Masters on the leaderboard will compete at the Global Finals between December 5 and December 8, 2024, in Tokyo, Japan. At the moment, leemishima holds one of these sports.
The Tekken series is likely one of the most international among the fighting game communities, and the South American part of the community is certainly quite vital. The new character Azucena from Peru was created to pay homage to that portion of the fanbase.
Tekken 8 is currently available for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. At the moment, Bandai Namco is preparing to launch a (or perhaps “the”) returning fighter, Heihachi Mishima.
