Yes. Space cows. Let that sink.

Today Cloud Imperium Games released a new video about its growing space simulator Star Citizen, and it’s a slightly quirky one.

Like several we have seen over the past few weeks,  the video focuses on Alpha 4.0, which will add the new Pyro star system and plenty more.

This time around, the video focuses on the “more” area of the upcoming update, starting with… space cows.

It’d be easy to dismiss it as humorous, but we get to take an in-depth look at the Quasi Grazers, cow-like creatures that actually lay eggs and will populate several planets.

We see how several types exist, adapted to different biomes, going from the “naked” desert variant to the tundra variant with its glorious physics-enabled fur.

They also interact with the day-night cycle, grazing and sleeping as real animals would do, and will react to other animals in the area.

The second part of the video focuses on new character customization options that will be added to the already advanced character creation suite of the game, including tattoos, piercings, and stubbles.

If you’re unfamiliar with Star Citizen, it’s a crowdfunded multiplayer open-universe sandbox space simulator that has been in development for several years. It’s directed by Chris Roberts of Wing Commander fame. It just received a new update, numbered alpha 3.24.

The game has passed $720 million in crowdfunding ($720,162,593 at the moment of this writing) and counts 5,335,872 registered users. Of course, many of them aren’t paying customers, as they register accounts to enjoy Free Fly Events.

A single-player campaign named Squadron 42 is also deep in development (and we learned last year that it was feature-complete), It starts an exceptional cast oif famous actors including Mark Hamill, Henry Cavill, Gary Oldman, Liam Cunningham, Gillian Anderson, and more.

If you’re interested in Star Citizen, learning how to fly certainly won’t hurt. To that end, you can enjoy our helpful guide on how to get started with flight simulators.

Full disclosure: the author of this article has backed Star Citizen’s crowdfunding campaign.
