To celebrate the end of Invictus Launch Week 2955, we get to see some of the ships that will appear in the game, most of which in the colors of the titular Squadron 42 of the UEE Navy.

Specifically, we take a good look at the twin-engine variant of the Anvil F7 Hornet, named F7X. We also get to see the Anvil F8A Lightning, the venerable Aegis Dynamics Gladius, the powerful Aegis Dynamics Retaliator bomber, and the Aegis Idris Frigate (specifically Squadron 42’s “hero ship”, the UEES Stanton).

Lastly, we take a look at the massive Bengal Carrier UEES Krugeri, the flagship of Admiral Ernst Bishop (played by Gary Oldman) in the game.

Speaking of the Krugeri, which we saw in action in the latest demo, today we meet one of its crew members, Pit Chief Phil Declan, of which we read a brief profile.

“According to many, Phil Declan didn’t sign up for the Navy, he fell out of a ship engine onto the deck, grabbed a wrench and got to work. Building off a career that’s sprawled over thirty years, Declan’s worked on every fighter in the fleet to become a walking encyclopedia of parts, weapons, engines, and armor.

As more and more mechanics turned to him for his expansive knowledge, he grew into a natural position of authority, eventually earning Chief Petty Officer and assuming the celebrated role of Krugeri Pit Chief.

He may love nothing more than the thrum of a busy flight deck, but will always make time for his crew and flight officers alike to talk about the simple joys of flying.”

Incidentally, Squadron 42 is slated for release for PC in 2026. You can enjoy the images below.

F7X in Squadron 42, the single-player campaign of Star Citizen

If you’re unfamiliar with Star Citizen, it’s a PC exclusive crowdfunded project directed by Chris Roberts, who created the beloved Wing Commander series in the days of early PC gaming. It’s a multiplayer sandbox space simulator that has been in development for over a decade and in alpha for several years.

In the meantime, the crowdfunding total continues to grow, and it just passed $834 million. To be precise, it’s currently at $834,138,347. The game also has 5,714,885 registered users, albeit not all of them are paying customers. Many simply create an account to enjoy the occasional free-to-play periods like the one that is ending today.

If you’re wondering, this means that the game has made about $24 million since the start of Invictus Launch Week, nearly two weeks ago.

The single-player campaign titled Squadron 42 described in this article is also in active development, starring an exceptional cast of famous actors, including Mark Hamill, Henry Cavill, Gary Oldman, Liam Cunningham, Gillian Anderson, and more.

Since the project has been in development for over a decade, you can see how Squadron 42 has evolved since its first reveal.

Full disclosure: the author of this article has backed Star Citizen’s crowdfunding campaign.
