It’s that time of the year, and Star Citizen will soon celebrate one of its biggest events, Intergalactic Aerospace Expo 2955.
The event will start on November 20 and will continue for two weeks until December 3.
One of the most relevant elements of the event is that the game will be free-to-play for everyone until the end of the Expo. All you need is to create a free account, and when the Expo starts, you’ll be able to download the client and play.
You will also be able to enjoy for free over 150 ships and vehicles on a brand-based rotation.
Below you can check out when each brand of ships will be available.
Of course, you’ll also be able to visit the location of the event in the game. This year, it’s back to Orison.
Usually, the expo is also a chance for Cloud Imperium Games to announce and often launch new ships.
If you’re wondering about the year, it’s the in-lore date in Star Citizen’s universe. It’s set 930 years in the future, and the date progresses in parallel with the real world.

If you’re unfamiliar with Star Citizen, it’s a PC exclusive, crowdfunded project directed by Chris Roberts of Wing Commander fame. It’s a multiplayer sandbox space simulator that has been in development for over a decade and in alpha for several years.
It has recently been updated to version Alpha 4.3.2 and will soon receive a brand new system with version Alpha 4.4.
In the meantime, the crowdfunding total continues to grow, and it has recently passed $883 million. To be precise, it’s currently at $883,631,769. The game also has 5,998,84 registered users, although not all of them are paying customers. Many simply create an account to enjoy the free-to-play periods like the one mentioned in this article.
A single-player campaign titled Squadron 42 is also in active development with a 2026 release window, starring an exceptional cast of famous actors, including Mark Hamill, Henry Cavill, Gary Oldman, Liam Cunningham, Gillian Anderson, and more.
Since the project has been in development for over a decade, you can see how Squadron 42 has evolved since its first reveal.
