The project, which has its foundation in Marvelous‘ Indie Game Incubator initiative, is an acceleration program for creators and startup companies who want to excel in the gaming industry, and aims to accompany them through the process of development and release over the course of a year. It also partners with PlayStation and iD@Xbox, among others.

Applications are open on the official site until April 30, 2025.

So-Fu spans several categories. Besides video games, it also covers video, art, fashion, and more. It aims to support developers who produce high-quality content and expand Japan’s industrial competitiveness through nurturing new talent.

Once the 20 beneficiaries are selected, they will receive mentorship and support starting in June 2025.

Applications can be submitted by individuals, teams (formed by two or more members), or even companies. The representative member needs to be a Japanese national or permanent resident in Japan.

In the case of companies, the head office must be located in Japan.

Interestingly, minors are allowed to apply as long as they will have graduated from Junior high school by April 1, 2025.

All beneficiaries will be able to attend lectures held once or twice a month covering the basic knowledge needed to start a business and the latest industry trends. Each of them will be assigned a mentor who will oversee the project and provide advice and support in running the business.

Individuals and teams will receive progress management support in July, October, and January, while companies will have monthly interviews to examine their growth, business strategy, and operational evolution.

The interim results of the project will be presented at Tokyo Game Show, which will happen in September. At the end of the round, the final results will be publicly presented at a venue in Japan.
