Today, skater boys and girls all around the globe got the news they’ve been waiting over a decade for, as it was revealed Full Circle’s Skate would be arriving in early access at some point in 2025. While an exact release window wasn’t specified, they did tweet that news would be arriving in the coming months alongside a short clip.
Skate is set to be the first installment in the beloved extreme sports game series since 2010 with Skate 3. The series was originally released back in 2007, with avid skateboarders and non-skateboarders alike raving about how accurate and enjoyable the series was.
The series managed to distinguish itself from other games in the genre thanks to its “Flick-it” control system. Using the analog sticks, players could execute a number of different tricks and grinds, all based on the movement, angle, or speed at which they flicked the sticks.
Skate’s stories also featured encounters with renowned real-life skaters like Danny Way, Terry Kennedy, and Rob Dyrdek. By completing challenges with or against these characters, you could unlock authentic licensed skateboard gear, which coincided with a story about your rise to stardom.
Since 2010, there’s certainly been a void left to fill regarding the skateboarding genre. Titles like Sessions, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5, Olli Olli (series), and Skater XL certainly did their best to fill it, but when EA announced that the Skate series would be returning from hiatus back in 2020, fan reaction made it clear that the series has been sorely missed.
