ININ Games has officially announced Shenmue 3 Enhanced, a new, upgraded edition of the original game, while also bringing the story to new consoles.
Shenmue 3 Enhanced will, as the name suggests, include several changes to make the game better than ever. From a graphics perspective, this includes 4K textures, enhanced graphics and performance improvements, and DLSS/FSR support.
That’s not all — Shenmue 3 Enhanced will also include changes like denser NPC areas to make the world feel more alive than ever.
A new classic camera mode is also coming with the enhanced edition. This camera mode is inspired by the player perspective in Shenmue 1 and Shenmue 2.
Several quality-of-life improvements are also coming with Shenmue 3 Enhanced, including the following:
- Stamina system adjustments
- Health restoration before fights
- Reduced money barriers
- Cutscene/conversation skip options
- Expanded QTE timing window
- Improved menu and UX
All of the major changes in the upcoming edition will be optional, giving players the chance to experience the game in its original glory.
More details about the enhanced version of the game will be revealed at Gamescom 2025, which kicks off tomorrow, August 19, with its Opening Night Live.
Shenmue 3 Enhanced will be available for PC, PlayStation 5, and, for the first time, Xbox Series X|S. It’s also coming to either the Nintendo Switch or Switch 2, though no concrete details were released about which version of the Switch it will be released on.
Those who already own the original game on PlayStation 4 or PC will have a way to upgrade to the enhanced edition. More details about doing so will be revealed in the future.
