Today, indie developers Milestone showed off a brand new look at its upcoming anime arcade racing game, Screamer, introducing fans to some of the more unique driving mechanics the game has to offer.

Screamer uses a feature known as The Echo System, which revolves around two key resources: Sync and Entropy. These two variables work in tandem with one another to unleash distinct character abilities and vehicle handling that make the game feel like you’re in the middle of an anime.

Sync can be built passively or intentionally by performing the Active Shift, a timely upshift that complements the vehicle’s automatic transmission while also letting you activate a speed boost or shield yourself against enemy attacks. Using this will also generate Entropy, he energy that powers the two offensive mechanics called Strike and Overdrive.

Strike is a short but lethal attack that can make enemies explode, and only uses part of the Entropy to execute. On the other hand, Overdrive uses it all, putting the vehicle into a powered-up state, boosting speed, granting temporary shielding, and letting you knock out your opponents. The main drawback is that crashing into a wall in this state will cause your car to explode.

You can find out a bit more about what to expect from gameplay by checking out the introduction that Milestone released for the title last week. Screamer is set to release in 2026 on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
