Marvelous has revealed a first, very small, look at the player’s children in Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, and the teaser itself is more in-depth than in past Rune Factory games.
The player’s children in Rune Factory games have always been very standard. Before Rune Factory 5, the children all looked the exact same. Players could have multiple kids who looked and talked the same in some of them. While Rune Factory 2’s children were incredibly important, the other games focused very little on them. In fact, players couldn’t even name their child in the first Rune Factory game.
Rune Factory 5 attempted to break the mold. There were a few minute differences in the children depending on their personality, and the second and third child could take the hair/eye color of whoever the player married. There were a few different lines of dialogue depending on their personality, but it wasn’t very different.
However, Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma looks to be changing the children up quite a bit. In a teaser shared by the Japanese Rune Factory X page, players got a first look at the silhouettes of some of the children.
In the upcoming Rune Factory game, children will take after the player’s spouse quite a bit. Not only will they have physical characteristics that follow the spouse (such as ears like Fubuki’s or Hina’s), but they’ll also have personality traits from the spouse.
Only six silhouettes were teased. Some of them heavily favor certain characters, such as Iroha, Hina, Kai, and Fubuki. Considering all of the trailers that Marvelous has been releasing for Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, there could be one coming that centers on children specifically.
These adorable models also show that the kids will grow up at least a bit. Given the unique models, it’s not clear how many children players can have yet — previous games have let players have one to three kids.
Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma will be released on June 5, 2025, on PC, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.
