All aboard the Steam early access train, railroad magnates, Corbie Games and Iceberg Interactive have just revealed that their highly anticipated sequel, Railroad Corporation 2, is now available on the platform.
Railroad Corporation originally launched for Steam on May 27, 2019. It allowed players to become their own train tycoons in the 20th century, fulfilling contracts and completing missions based on the historical rail system that was established throughout the US by laying down tracks, digging tunnels, and raising bridges.
As you can see in the trailer below, the second installment in the series builds on the tracks laid by the original, adding many modernized gameplay updates. Alongside 10 additional locomotives, players can now experience expanded track-laying options, new departments and staffing features, and an expanded financial model. A breakdown of the features can be seen below:
- Electrification & Expanded Railroad Building: Players can now electrify their tracks, allowing electric locomotives to power through your network. Additionally, new tools have been introduced to refine track laying, including parallel snapping, grid-based placement, and the ability to place tracks over other tracks (also known as diamond crossings).
- Detailed Locomotive Reports: Get detailed insights into your locomotives, including statistics about their top speed, max pulling mass, monthly upkeep, and other advanced specifications.
- Signal Mechanics: Railroad Corporation 2 introduces signal mechanics to control the flow of traffic and ensure locomotives are running smoothly across junctions.
- Headquarters & New Departments: Players can choose strategic locations for their headquarters and train stations, and unearth new materials to trade with using the Geology department.
- Financial & Operational Insights: Gain a clearer view of your financials with the new reporting tool. This feature provides detailed insights into your company’s activities, a snapshot of how your competitors are doing, and essential market information.
Alongside these features, Railroad Corporation 2 will also have three different modes upon its launch: Campaign Story, Multiplayer, and Sandbox. The campaign features four initial missions, though new ones will be added throughout the early access period. Sandbox gives you free will to experiment and create, while multiplayer lets you and up to four friends cooperate or square off against one another in unique scenarios.
Railroad Corporation 2 is currently available on Steam for $23.99 – it usually is $29.99 without the release date discount.
