PUBG: Battlegrounds Update 35.1 Introduces New Contender System & More

Today, Krafton released PUBG: Battlegrounds update 35.1 for PC, introducing new seasonal features, gameplay unification, and quality-of-life improvements for veteran players and new fans to experience. The console version of the update will take a little longer to release, as it is set to arrive on PS5, Xbox One, PS4, and Xbox Series X|S on April 17.

The first big change to come in PUBG: Battlegrounds update 35.1 is a new system known as Contender. This high-end upgrade system can be found in the Workshop, allowing players to combine unique appearances from multiple outfit sets, which can be changed over time.

The 2025 roadmap that was released earlier this year gave PUBG: Battlegrounds fans a sneak peek into gameplay unification, which has officially been implemented as of update 35.1. Normal, Ranked, and Esports modes have been adjusted to reduce map-specific learning curves while keeping each Battleground’s distinct identity intact.

Maps and items got significant tweaks thanks to the new patch, with Zipline Gun, Emergency Cover Flare, Stun Gun, and Self-AED (Solo only) are now available on all maps, while Blue Chip Transmitter, 4x Thermal Scope, and Spike Trap have been removed from all spawn pools. Each of these has been put in place to balance loot and the overall experience.

Speaking of balance, settings have been adjusted for each location to bring about consistent squad dynamics and comeback mechanics across the board. One such change includes adding the Recall system to every map, allowing downed players to return to the fight.

Lastly, the reworked Aim Punch system is officially in the live game. Built directly from community feedback following player testing in the Gunplay Labs, this system reduces excessive screen shake, improves shooting consistency, and enhances the skill ceiling for precision gunplay.
