The plan comes in response to the feedback the developers have received from fans since the game’s release a few weeks back on November 25, 2025, as it currently sits at Mostly Negative on Steam, with a majority of users citing massive crashes and poor performance as to why they were leaving a bad review.

After the poor launch, less than two weeks after the game’s release, Straight4 Studios announced it had laid off an undisclosed number of staff, citing a need to reduce the team’s size after “exploring every possible alternative.” Since then, multiple updates have been rolled out to help improve stability, and the developers have stated that they want to “shape Project Motor Racing into the game you believe it can be.”

Over the next few weeks and months, ongoing improvements such as UI and UX refinements, handling refinements, performance and engine optimisation, audio enhancements, and visual upgrades to vehicles and environments have been prioritised. Updates will be rolled out for free, though no specific dates have been specified outside of the generalized window mentioned above.

Alongside the quality-of-life changes to make the game more sustainable and enjoyable, plenty of new features are being worked on as well:

  • Radar system
  • Spotter support
  • Rolling starts
  • VR support for PC
  • New online modes
  • Native triple-screen support
  • Frontend and menu overhaul
  • Career Mode restructuring and expansion

Project Motor Racing is the latest game developed under the supervision of game designer William Ian Bell, who created the Project CARS series via studio Slightly Mad Studios. The game allows players to race up to 31 AI opponents, though console versions are limited to 15 AI opponents in single-player, prioritizing stable, high-quality play at 1440p and 60 fps.
