Pokémon TCG Pocket is getting its first expansion set, Mythical Island, on December 17, bringing new Pokémon, Trainers, and packs for collectors to enjoy and TCG players to experiment with.
The Mythical Island expansion will feature Mew, one of the first mythical Pokémon in the franchise. While Mew is technically in the game already as a secret fourth immersive card, it’s hard to get — players have to pull all of the original 150 Pokémon to get it. Mew EX’s arrival comes with a potentially better place in the meta for the little ‘mon. With 130 HP and an attack that can use an opponent’s attacks, Mew EX could be a nice counter for meta decks like Mewtwo EX.
Mew EX isn’t the only new card that’s part of the set — Celebi will be introduced as well, alongside plenty of other Pokémon like Morelull, Dhelmise, Larvesta, Snivy, Aerodactyl EX, Marshadow, and Dedenne. Some cards that already exist, like Tauros, Vaporeon, Magmar, and Exeggcute, are also part of that set, though they have new attacks.
Additionally, several new trainers who are bound to impact the battling meta will be part of Mythical Island. Blue and Leaf are great examples of Supporters who may do just this. Blue makes it so that a player’s Pokémon takes 10 less damage from attacks the next turn, while Leaf reduces the Retreat Cost of Pokémon by 2.
Of course, there’s also new accessories coming. A binder featuring Serperior and a Display Board with greenery have been shown off. If it’s anything like the release of Pokémon TCG Pocket, then the Mythical Island expansion will have plenty of other accessories to collect through the shop and events.
Plus, new Expert Solo Battles will be introduced with Mythical Island, including a Mew and Mewtwo EX deck, Aerodactyl EX and Marowack deck, and Blue and his signature Pidgeot EX deck. These offer a fun challenge and more rewards (which means even more packs and Wonder Pulls).
