Today, just 35 days after debuting on PS5, PS VR2, and Xbox X|S, Kinetic Games has announced its hit paranormal horror game Phasmophobia has reached 1 million copies sold on consoles. When combined with PC sales, this brings the total sold on all platforms to almost 22 million.

When speaking on the accomplishment, Kinetic Games CEO And Lead Developer at Daniel Knight thanked the community, “This incredible achievement is only possible thanks to our wonderful, supportive, and engaged community. The entire team here at Kinetic Games could not be happier, reaching this milestone is the best Christmas present we could have wished for.”

Phasmophobia was originally released into Steam early access in September 2020. The game gained considerable popularity with Twitch and YouTuber streamers thanks to its unique cooperative gameplay, which sees players work in groups to complete a contract and identify the type of ghost they are hunting.

As the team explores each site, sanity will drain, causing events and circumstances that make completing your overall objective even more challenging. When sanity is low, the ghost takes measures into their own hands and begins hunting players, making everyone run and hide until the hunt phase ends.

The game was so popular that it even rose to the best-selling game on Steam globally from October to November 2020 and peaked at the number six spot on Twitch around that same timeframe. Phasmophobia continues to get new content updates on both PC and console alike, with over 13 locations and 24 different ghost types, which are often based on religious folklore.

Phasmophobia is currently available on PC via Steam, PS5, PS VR2, and Xbox X|S for $19.99 – though it is currently discounted at $15.99 for the Autumn Steam Sale until December 4.
