Square Enix has announced that Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler 2 will be getting Nintendo Switch 2 versions later this year, and they’ll be available both digitally and physically.
Both Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler 2 are available currently on the Nintendo Switch, but the Switch 2 versions will feature improved resolution and frame rate as the newer console allows.
The new versions of the games are currently available in Japan, though they won’t come to the West until October 1, 2026.
Players can pre-order the games individually both digitally and physically. Additionally, the two Octopath Traveler games are available as a bundle digitally.
Unfortunately, those who own the Nintendo Switch versions of these games will not get access to an upgrade pack for the Switch 2 versions. Additionally, save data won’t transfer between the two versions of the games, either.

The news for Switch 2 versions of Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler 2 comes as the series celebrates its 8th anniversary. Besides these two titles, the series also includes Octopath Traveler 0, which already has a Switch 2 version available. The series has sold more than 7 million copies since its first title was released in 2018.
If you haven’t played the critically acclaimed HD-2D RPGs, now is the perfect time to start, as they’re all on sale through the Nintendo Eshop. They’re also available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
