Today, Long Jaunt Studio released the Norland “Damn Big Update,” which looks to be one of the biggest patches to its indie medieval kingdom simulation title so far.

Like previous patches, the “Damn Big Update” will feature plenty of quality-of-life changes and bug fixes that will improve the overall enjoyment of the game, though they are not the main focus. Instead, the new content is set to overhaul several core mechanics covering migration, crime, alcohol, scaffolding, and other elements.

On the management and nobles side of things, the chancellery has been upgraded considerably, now offering a more streamlined experience, and lords can now engage in small talk. Migration is also now tied directly to the average mood of peasants, and changes to crime, execution, and other related mechanics account for these new dynamics.

In the October patch, we saw Norland add in walls and gates. The “Damn Big Update” expands upon this gameplay feature even further by adding in new threats like Ragged Bands to add more significant military pressure to your strongholds.

Ragged Bands may appear to cause trouble and threaten the city’s safety. They also play a role in the balance of power on the global map, with new diplomatic options and scheming changes, while also giving every map four strategic points of entry that must be planned around.

You can see the full list of patch notes, changes, and improvements for the “Damn Big Update” right here. Norland originally joined Steam early access back on Jul 18, 2024, finding success in the sim genre thanks to its heavy focus on complex stories.

Gameplay revolves around letting you build civilizations by controlling a noble family, using their wealth and knowledge to tend to the needs of the people or make themselves even more successful. Since then, Long Jaunt has released updates frequently based on user feedback.

Norland is available on PC via Steam Early Access for a price of $29.99.
