Today, Hello Games announced the No Man’s Sky Cosmos update (aka Update 7.0), adding a broad range of new activities centered on deep-space exploration, space station customization, orbital construction, and salvage operations.
No Man’s Sky Cosmos also marks the 10th anniversary of the title with the Our Journey Continues expedition, letting players revisit major moments from the game’s history and earn nostalgia-themed rewards. The update also introduces the option to become a Space Station Director after meeting requirements set by local authorities.
As a Space Station Director, players can redesign the central hub, rearrange furnishings, add new rooms, and decorate the exterior with hundreds of new parts. Stations can now have more personalized layouts. The update also adds Galactic Alliances, letting players create or join groups, coordinate exploration, and compete for territory. Players can join up to three alliances, and the most active groups appear on leaderboards at Space Station cores.
Exploration now features a new interactive star system map, showing celestial bodies, the Space Station, deep-space points of interest, and unidentified signals. Players can mark destinations for navigation assistance, with points of interest including asteroid belts, ice fields, deep-space outposts, debris fields, asteroid platforms, and revisitable procedurally generated hulks.
Deep-space outposts are new destinations for exploration and commerce, featuring alien quartermasters who offer maps and salvaged materials, and salvage and delivery terminals provide contracts for players. Some outposts are now hazardous due to invasive biological growth, where Travelers can recover pathogen sacs, gelatinous fibers, and other resources by cleaning up biohazards.
No Man’s Sky Cosmos update further expands space-based construction by allowing players to establish orbital bases anywhere in space. Players can deploy a deep-space base computer to claim an area, build around natural asteroid platforms or construct habitats within empty volumes of space, with new corridor pieces and a large collection of station decorations available through the Space Anomaly.
Salvage operations offer another major addition, with colossal derelict hulks scattered throughout deep space. These wrecks contain valuable technology, cargo, and industrial materials, but their structural integrity can deteriorate as players strip them for resources, potentially triggering a catastrophic meltdown.
Corvette-class ships now have a Tractor Beam to collect salvage and minerals, and the Gravitino Coil launches recovered materials into the ship’s hold. Spacewalking is now available to all players, who can leave their ships using the Quick Menu and explore deep space with full movement control, including rolling.

Players can now investigate hulks, salvage debris, and explore points of interest outside their ships, and spacewalking uses up the exosuit’s cold protection in deep space. The update adds dense asteroid belts and ice fields with valuable resources, attracting prospectors, traders, miners, and pirates. Players can reach stars through long-haul flight, but flying into one is dangerous.
For the 10th anniversary celebration, the Our Journey Continues expedition will take players through No Man’s Sky’s history, with milestones representing major moments in the game’s evolution from launch through the Cosmos update. Developer commentary narrated by Sean Murray accompanies each milestone and remains available in the Catalog’s Collected Knowledge section after it’s unlocked.
Expedition rewards include framed artwork from major No Man’s Sky updates, a golden Rasamama S36 starship, the Starbound v0.27 Multi-Tool, an astronaut cockpit figurine, a vintage Sentinel Interceptor, and a retextured Diplodocus companion inspired by pre-release footage.
No Man’s Sky Cosmos update brings major visual and technical improvements. Planetary terrain now has better tessellation, textures, and detail. Clouds viewed from space have improved lighting and shape detail. Particle effects are enhanced, and transparent objects now react to dynamic lighting. Deep-space locations feature new effects. On PC, the update adds support for Intel XeSS 3, NVIDIA DLSS 4.5, Frame Generation 5x and 6x, and foveated rendering for PCVR.
In addition to new content, No Man’s Sky Cosmos includes performance enhancements and bug fixes across all platforms. Hello Games has improved multiplayer latency, inventories, settlements, base loading, animations, terrain generation, and texture loading, and it is reported that the console file-handling improvements are reported to reduce load times by 6 to 9 percent.
No Man’s Sky Cosmos update is available now as a free 10th-anniversary patch for all platforms. For more information on this and other previous and future news, be sure to check back to Simulation Daily for updates.
