Nintendo Switch 2 Release Date, Price, and Details Revealed

Nintendo Switch 2

Today, Nintendo revealed the release date, pricing information, and details of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console.

During the livestreamed Direct, we learned that the console will have a “Game Chat” feature that can pick up the player’s voice, even from a distance, and broadcast it clearly. It’s also possible to stream your screen to your friends.

The “C” button on the right Joy-Con 2 controller pulls up the chat menu, letting you mute yourself and more. The console also comes with a dedicated webcam that you can use to broadcast yourself. The camera feed will also be integrated into some games.

A Nintendo Online membership will be required to use Game Chat, and children under the age of 16 will need the parent’s or guardian’s approval on the Nintendo Switch Parental Control app to start a chat.

Another interesting feature is GameShare, which lets you share compatible games and play them together with up to 3 other consoles even if the players don’t own a copy of the game.

The LCD screen measures 7.9 inches and comes with 1080 resolution at 120 FPS, including HDR resolution. TV Mode with the new dock supports up to 4K with HDR and up to 120 FPS. The back also includes a fan to help cool the console.

The console has “significantly improved CPU and GPU performance over Nintendo Switch,” and Spatial 3D sound is supported.

On the back of the Switch 2, there’s a new stand, the angle of which can be adjusted. The console has two USB-C ports, one on the top and one on the bottom.

The internal storage is 256 gigabytes, and it’s faster than its predecessor. In terms of external storage, microSD Express cards are supported, with faster data transfer speed compared to the cards used by the Switch.

A new Pro Controller will also be made available, and a variety of accessibility features are included, like the ability to adjust font size, enable screen reader, and speech-to-text features within GameChat.

Speaking of software, there will be a “Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour” that will basically teach you about the console, like the fact that the Joy-Con 2 attaches magnetically and works like a mouse with additional gyroscopic capabilities to rotate objects on the screen.

It’ll play Nintendo Switch 2 games, “compatible” games for Nintendo Switch (not all of the games for the older consoles will be compatible with the new one), and upgraded “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition” games that were originally released for Nintendo Switch.

The console launches on June 5, 2025. Pre-orders start on April 9.

Besides the console on its own, you will be able to purchase the Switch 2 with Mario Kart World. The console with no game will be priced at $449.99. The bundle will be priced at $499.99
