Nintendo announced that it’ll be phasing out the My Nintendo Gold Points program, stopping players from earning the points starting March 24.

My Nintendo Gold Points were points players could earn when they purchased a game. Both digital and physical games counted for Gold Points. These points could then be used when purchasing anything on the digital eshop; every point was worth $0.01.

Starting at 9:30 PM PDT on March 24, players won’t be able to earn Gold Points anymore. There are a few caveats — if a pre-order was placed before the cutoff date, players will still earn the points (even if the pre-order purchase hasn’t gone through yet).

These points are able to be redeemed for a year after earning them. Players will still be able to redeem Gold Points after March 24, so they’ll be around for a while still.

Additionally, there are still Nintendo eshop cards in retail stores that highlight Gold Points. However, despite what the gift card says, they won’t be earnable after March 24.

While the Gold Points are being phased out, the Platinum Points will still be available. Platinum Points are used for physical rewards through the Nintendo website. There are also a few rewards on the Switch itself that use Platinum Points, such as icon avatars and other icon customization features.

This comes ahead of the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, which takes place on April 2. The Switch 2 had been leaked quite a bit ahead of its reveal, which developer Hideki Kamiya had some harsh words about.
