According to the documentation provided by the company, the hybrid console has shipped to retailers 150.86 million units in its lifetime as of December 31, 2024.

This means that 4.82 million units have been shipped to retailers in the holiday quarter (Q3) and 9.54 million in the first nine months of the fiscal year (down 30.6% year-on-year). We’ll have to wait a few days to make a comparison with the PS5 since Sony will announce its own financial results next week.

Speaking of software sales, 1,359.80 million units of Nintendo Switch games have been shipped during the console’s lifetime. Game sales were down 24.4 % year-on-year.

Nintendo has dropped again its forecast for Nintendo Switch units that they expect to ship in the full fiscal year (which ends on March 31, 2025), from 12.5 million units to 11 million units. The forecast for games has also been axed from 160 million units to 150 million units.

In terms of purely financial results for the nine months examined, sales were 956.2 billion yen, down 31.4% year-on-year, while Operating profit was 247.5 billion yen, down 46.7% year-on-year.

The company also dropped its financial guidance for the full fiscal year to 1,190,000 million yen in net sales (from 1,280,000 million yen) and 280,000 million yen (from 360,000 million yen).

That being said, we learn that Super Mario Party Jamboree sold to retailers (sold in) 6.17 million units, while the estimated sell-through to customers is 5.6 million units. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom achieved sell-in and sell-through respectively at 3.91 million units and 3.4 million units. Mario & Luigi Brothership sold in 1.84 million units and sold through 1,4 million units.

Of course, Nintendo’s financials are very likely to recover once the Switch 2 launches sometime this year.

Other gaming companies have also already announced their financial results this quarter, including Marvelous Entertainment, Koei Tecmo, Capcom, Microsoft, and Konami.
