Nintendo Direct September 12, 2025 – All the News and Reveals

The September 12, 2025, Nintendo Direct had a lot of announcements for Switch and Switch 2 players, including several Mario titles as the franchise celebrates its 40th anniversary.

To start with, Nintendo looked back at the Super Mario Bros. franchise, showing off a bit of the early artwork for the games over the years. It announced that there will be a light display planned to celebrate in December at the Nintendo Museum. Nintendo also announced that it would be sponsoring the Kyoto Marathon next year.

This led to an announcement for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which is set to release in April 2026 and is being created by the producer of the first Super Mario Movie, Illumination. Chris Pratt and Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, and Kevin Michael Richardson will all reprise their roles.

Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 are also coming to the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 in a bundle on October 2, 2025, which will include new storybook pages. Plus, a new Rosalina and Mario amiibo will release on April 2, 2026, as well as a physical storybook.

Next up was an announcement for Mario Tennis Fever, the next Mario Tennis game that will include new mechanics, equipment, game modes, and characters. It will be released on the Nintendo Switch 2 on February 12, 2026.

Nintendo also announced a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, which will include Meetup in Bellabel Park and other new content that will be announced later. Bellabel Park is a new multiplayer area. The new edition will be released in Spring 2026. Also releasing in Spring 2026 is the physical Talking Flower from the game that actually talks.

Last but not least for Mario’s anniversary announcements was an announcement for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, which will also be released in Spring 2026.

ProbablyMonsters showed off Storm Lancers, its 2D action platformer that was released on the Nintendo Switch today.

Krafton revealed that Dinkum, its successful survival life sim, will be coming to the Nintendo Switch on November 5, 2025. Players can pre-order the game or experience its demo now.

Gryphline showed off Popucom, a multiplayer game that’s focused on colorful platforming fun. It comes to the Nintendo Switch this Holiday season.

Next up, Nintendo finally revealed more about Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, including some of the gameplay. It will release on Nintendo Switch in Spring 2026.

Digital Eclipse revealed that Mortal Kombat: The Legacy Kollection will be released on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2 on October 30, 2025, digitally, and December 12, 2025, physically.

Square Enix was next, and it revealed that Final Fantasy XII Remake Integrade would be coming to Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 on January 22, 2026. It’s currently available on PC and PlayStation 5.

Lynked: Banner of the Spark from Dreamhaven was featured, releasing on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 today.

Supergiant Games revealed that Hades 2 would be released on PC, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2 on September 25, 2025, digitally and physically for consoles on December 10, 2025. This will be the v1.0 launch of the game, though it’s been available in Early Access on PC.

Next up, Nintendo revealed new amiibos that work with Kirby Air Riders. These amiibos will be available on November 20, 2025, the same date that Kirby Air Riders reveals. An upcoming Kirby Air Riders Direct will reveal more information in the future.

Nintendo showed another look at Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. New companions were revealed, like a Korok, and pair-up abilities between them. It’s set to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 6, 2025.

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, an upcoming remake of the original RPG, is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2 on February 5, 2026.

Next, Nintendo revealed that it’s adding a new Kirby theme to the Nintendo Today app. Additionally, the Nintendo Online + Expansion Pack is adding the Virtual Boy emulator to its lineup. A new, re-created hardware of the Virtual Boy will be required, and it fits both the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. There’s also a cardboard version of the hardware that will be released as well.

This will be released on February 17, 2026, and more news on the hardware will be released in the future.

Koei Tecmo revealed Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 in Early 2026.

More Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of games are on the way. First up was One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 from Bandai Namco, which will be coming to Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 at the same time this fall. It’s currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Overcooked 2 from Team17 is also getting a Nintendo Switch 2 edition in Fall 2025.

Fall 2025 will also see an update to ConcernedApe’s hit indie title Stardew Valley, introducing mouse controls for Switch 2 players.

Last but not least is Human Fall Flat from Curve Games, which will be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 in Spring 2026.

FuturLab revealed that PowerWash Simulator 2 will be released on the Nintendo Switch 2 in Fall 2025. It’s also being released on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Aladdin-X revealed that Sukia Game Planet, a successor to the original game, will come to the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 in Winter 2025

Nintendo revealed that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Nintendo Switch 2 Edition would be coming on December 4, 2025.

Donkey Kong Bananza is getting two DLCs, DK Island and Emerald Rush. They’re available on Nintendo Switch 2 today.

Nintendo also revealed a sandbox Pokémon game, Pokémon Pokopia, where players play as a Ditto that’s turned into a human. They’ll meet other Pokémon to help create a thriving island, complete with buildings, farms, and whatever else the player wants. Pokémon Pokopia will launch in 2026 on the Nintendo Switch 2.

Of course, with the release of Pokémon Legends: Z-A right around the corner, Nintendo showed off more gameplay. This included several Mega Pokémon, like Mega Victrebell and Mega Hawlucha. Pokémon Legends: Z-A will be released on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on October 16, 2025.

The last of the Pokémon news was the reveal of Pokémon Legends: Z-A DLC, Mega Dimension. These will include Mega editions for Raichu, putting the ‘mon in classic X and Y styles. More information about the DLC will be revealed later.

Danganronpa 2 from Spike Chunsoft is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 after its initial release nearly 15 years ago, along with additional story content, in Danganronpa 2×2 in 2026.

Koei Tecmo also revealed Dynasty Warriors: Origins, along with DLC for Dynasty Warriors: Origins, on Nintendo Switch 2 on January 22, 2026.

Capcom also revealed more about Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection. The turn-based creature collector is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on March 13, 2026.

Nintendo’s infamous Sizzle Reel of content was next in the September 12, 2025, Nintendo Direct, speedrunning through some of the last announcements. These include the following:

Additionally, Capcom revealed that Resident Evil: Requiem will be released on Nintendo Switch 2 on February 27, 2026, when it’s also released on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Additionally, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village will be released on the same day on the console.

The last announcement for the Nintendo Direct on September 12, 2025, was for Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, which will be released in 2026 on the Nintendo Switch 2. It looks as though it ties into Fire Emblem: Three Houses, as Sothis makes an appearance.
