Many fans of the Mass Effect series have been wondering whether the next installment will keep the tone we’re used to or will change like Dragon Age did.

The question has been prompted by the upcoming release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which will launch on October 31 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

The fantasy RPG appears to have changed the narrative tone to some extent, straying from the dark and grim world depicted by Dragon Age: Origins and its earlier successors. This has proven somewhat polarizing among the fans, even more so combined to the full-on action gameplay.

Today Executive Producer Michael Gamble, who is at the helm of the much-teased next Mass Effect took to X (formerly Twitter) to share reassuring words.

Lots of people asking me about Mass Effect now that Veilguard reviews are out, and Oct 31 is close. Both are from the studio, but Mass Effect is Mass Effect. How you bring a Sci Fi RPG to life is different than other genres or IPs…and has to have different kinds of love.

Regarding tone questions: Mass Effect will maintain the mature tone of the original Trilogy. This is all I’m gonna say for now.

So there you have it. It appears that Mass Effect will keep its seriousness and mature sci-fi outlook, which speaking personally as a long-time fan of the franchise, is certainly good news.

If you’re not familiar with Mass Effect, it’s an extremely popular sci-fi RPG franchise by BioWare that debuted in 2007. Its success was only cemented by the two sequels that completed the original trilogy mentioned by Gamble in 2010 and 2012.

The franchise has then strayed from that path in 2017 with Mass Effect Andromeda, which proved quite polarizing among a rather lukewarm reception. While BioWare attempted to salvage it with large updates, the franchise has been dormant since.

The new game in development doesn’t have a release date or many details, and fans are eagerly waiting for news.
