Valorant has just been released officially on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and Riot is celebrating with a brand-new cinematic, titled “Incursions,” introducing Valorant’s story to its new player base.
Valorant hit open beta for console on July 26. Riot was quick to prepare for a console release, fixing many of the issues within a week. The full release came just one week later.
Most of the new cinematic’s focus is on the game’s lore, showing off the relationships between agents. In it, Brimstone is the clear leader of the group, and there’s the Valorant Protocol and their enemies, the Valorant Legion.
For those who might not know, there’s a separate earth, Omega Earth, where the Valorant Legion is from. The Valorant Protocol Agents call the Valorant Legion Agents Omega as well. This is almost like a parallel universe where the Valorant agents come to Alpha Earth to take their radianite to save their world.
Valorant cinematics often showcase this, but this particular one honed in on Jett. Jett is considered a radiant, which means she has special powers. In-game cosmetics like player cards have hinted that Jett got her powers from Omega Jett attacking her, and Incursions confirmed that.
At the beginning of the trailer, Omega Jett shoots Jett when she’s taking out the trash at work. She seems to feel weird and grabs kitchen knives to help her fend off Omega Jett. It turns out the scene was a dream flashback. When she wakes up, she still has the scar, and she goes after Omega Jett in the next fight.
The cinematic leaves off in a weird spot that could be addressed in future videos. While everyone is patiently (or not so patiently) waiting for information about the next Agent, Incursions sets up for events after the Agent’s reveal. The Valorant Legion is attacking on every map.
