If you’re wondering, it’s the same crowdfunded game that was previously translated as Muv-Luv Tactics: Nightmare of Kalidasa (and that remains the meaning of the Japanese title, but apparently, the English one has been changed slightly).

The Steam Page can be found here for your wishlisting purposes, and a Discord Server has been opened.

At the moment, the game doesn’t have a release date, but we do know that it’ll launch in 2027.

In case you’re not familiar with it, it’s a side story set in the Muv-Luv multiverse, but this time around it’s not a visual novel. While it retains heavy narrative elements, it’s a turn-based tactics RPG, as the title implies.

To celebrate the announcement, you can find a rather spectacular trailer below, alongside a few screenshots.

We also get an official description directly from the Steam page:

The heir to the legendary “Muv-Luv” series, “Muv-Luv: Tactics Kalidasa at Nightmare” is a tactical simulation RPG devoted to pure gameplay excellence.

1) The encroaching BETA threat, and the overwhelming despair it brings

Feel the visceral terror of being crushed, body and mind.

At the core of this game lies all-out combat against humanity’s greatest foe, the BETA. As a UN Forces squadron commander, you stand against the vast horde of an invading extraterrestrial species. On the front line, where death is always one breath away, the tension and exhilaration of piloting a Tactical Surface Fighter await you. Intense combat will etch the despair and fervor unique to the Muv-Luv universe deep into your psyche.

2) A deep story and world for everyone to get immersed in

No prior series knowledge is required—deeper insight for the initiated; revelation for the newcomers.

The rich world of Muv-Luv has long enthralled its fans, yet for newcomers, it may have seemed a steep wall to climb. MuvTac constructs a self-contained story that seamlessly blends military, SF, and interpersonal drama under extreme circumstances. Even players with no prior Muv-Luv experience can step in without hesitation. Anyone can become the protagonist of this epic thanks to thoughtful, dramatic storytelling.

3) Refined strategy, where a single move decides life and death

Reach the pinnacle of thought through single-player-only gameplay.

Online elements have been stripped away, leaving a razor-sharp strategic experience.

Turn-based Battles: Unit placement and strategic decision-making determine your fate in this combat system focused on careful deliberation.

Deepening Progression: Recruit Eishi (TSF pilots), choose your loadout, and customize your Tactical Surface Fighters.

The Commander’s Burden: Every choice you make can determine your subordinates’ fates and the success or failure of your mission.

The supported languages will be English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese. Voices will be in Japanese only.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Muv-Luv franchise, it was created by âge and it debuted in Japan starting in 2003 with a trilogy of sci-fi visual novels.

The original game for PC (which actually includes two visual novels, Muv-Luv Extra and Unlimited) was followed by Muv-Luv Alternative, completing the original trilogy in 2006. It’s considered by many to be one of the best visual novels ever written.

The trilogy was ported to several platforms, including PS3, Xbox 360, PS Vita, Steam, and recently Nintendo Switch and Android, and it was finally localized in English in 2016 following a very successful Kickstarter campaign. As mentioned above, the iOS version is coming soon.

Several additional visual novels have since expanded the franchise’s universe, and we also have games featuring different genres like the action RPG Project MIKHAIL: A Muv-Luv War Story and the ongoing free-to-play spin-off Muv-Luv Girls Garden.

Further games are being developed and planned, including Muv-Luv Tactics Resonative, Duty: Lost Arcadia set on the European front, and the Muv-Luv Alternative sequel Muv-Luv: Integrate.
