The PS5 version of Microsoft Flight Simulator is just a few days from its release, and today we’re taking you with us on our very first flight on the console.

We’re going to take off from a small airfield north of Tokyo in Japan, fly over Chiba Prefecture, cut across the Tokyo Bay to the big city, where we’ll have a scenic flyover before landing at Haneda airport.

We’re doing it unfiltered and unscripted, just like you will when you first launch the simulator.

The choice of location isn’t random, as the Tokyo Metropolitan Area recently received the latest and greatest photogrammetry, making it both beatiful and rather demanding in terms of hardware.

Can the PS5 handle it? Turns out it can, and it’s worth mentioning that we’re flying on a base PS5, since that’s what most PS5 users have.

It’s also a good chance to bring out my old Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas 4, which happens to be the only flight perfipheral available on PS5 for the moment, despite the fact taht it was released for PS4.

Turns out I definitely need to re-acclimatize myself with it (and especially with not having rudder pedals), because the landing was definitely more eventful than I’d like. It’s not surprising, considering that I purchased the stick for Ace Combat 7 when it released and didn’t touch it ever again after finishing the game.

Excuses aside,  you can watch the video below. Of course, we’d appreciate it if you could like it and subscribe to our growing YouTube channel, as that’s always extremely helpful and appreciated.

Incidentally, you should stay tuned for one of our next videos, because we’ll give the PS5 a much tougher challenge. A Cessna is relatively gentle on the hardware, and while its Garmin G1000 is no slouch, it’s not comparable to the advanced and complex avionics of an airliner, which really hammer that RAM and CPU.

So we’ll try to fly an Airbus A321, and we’ll see how Sony’s console handles that. Will it hold up? We’ll see.

It’s worth mentioning that a pre-release copy of the simulator was provided to Simulation Daily by Xbox for the purpose of our coverage.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is currently available for PC and Xbox Series X|S. It’ll be released for PS5 on December 8, 2025.
