Vector Studio announced a new upcoming aircraft for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, and it’s no small addition: a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
According to the developer, it’ll launch in 2026.
While releasing within the year may seem ambitious for a new brand, we hear that the team at Vector has been working on it “quietly, deeply, obsessively, for a long time,” specifically, for over a year.
The promise is certainly ambitious: to “set the benchmark for 787 simulation” and to “build the best aircraft in flight simulation.” It’ll certainly be interesting to see how the results will match with that ambition.
According to what the developers mentioned on the newly opened Discord server, the simulation-related aim is to have a “very deep system level,” and just how deep will be revealed down the line. We also hear that it’ll come for both PC and consoles.
Apparently, the development team also includes active Boeing 787 Dreamliner pilots.
“From cockpit workflows to system behaviour and day-to-day usability, pilot insight is embedded directly into the design and validation process. This ensures the aircraft doesn’t just look accurate, but behaves in a way that feels correct to those who fly it professionally.”
The choice of developing a Dreamliner is certainly interesting, considering that there really isn’t a high-quality one on the market for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, and those that have been announced or teased certainly won’t come by 2026.
The base MSFS 2024 simulator also includes a Boeing 787, but it’s the much rarer version -10, and it certainly isn’t as advanced as what Vector promises (although it’s quite advanced for a default aircraft).
