Today Sega published the transcript of the Q&A for media and analysts hosted after its latest financial results announcement, and it includes some interesting insight about the business expectations for Atlus’ Metaphor: ReFantazio and more.
The questions were answered by Makoto Takahashi (Executive Vice President, Executive Officer, Corporate Planning Division) and Nobuaki Yoshii (Director of IR/SR Department, Corporate Planning Division).
First of all, we hear that the company has very high expectations for Metaphor: ReFantazio, the high fantasy JRPG created by part of the team behind the most recent Persona mainline games. On top of that, there’s high confidence about the game’s quality.
“This is a new title by creators of the Persona franchise, and we are very confident about its quality, so we have very high expectations for this title. We have been currently strengthening our global promotion for its release in October.
Since this is a new IP, we intend to aim for increased sales by firstly raising customers’ awareness and demonstrating the quality of the product.”
Speaking of other games, we also hear that (albeit with differences between regions) Shin Megami Tensei V; Vengeance enjoyed “steady” sales. Cinematic works in the Sonic The Hedgehog franchise also contributed to revenue and DLC sales for Total War: Warhammer 3 were “strong.”
Among repeat sales, strong performers were Unicorn Overlord by Vanillaware and the remaster of Persona 5 Royal.
Sega expects its continuing transmedia strategy (IE: creating movies and animation from its IPs) to improve the touchpoints of its mainstay titles and contribute to repeat sales.
Specifically, results from animation (including Sonic the Hedgehog) have been strong with both sales and profit “far exceeding expectations.”
Incidentally, Metaphor: ReFantazio releases on October 11, 2024, for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
