Piranha Games released a new featurette video for its upcoming Mech simulator MechWarrior 5: Clans, focusing on one of the main characters you’ll meet in the game.
The video focuses on Kit Commander Ibrahim Ismiril played by Blake Stadel of Stargate: Atlantis fame.
Not only do we get to see the harsh commander as he gets to work on a group of cadets which includes the playable protagonists, but we also hear from Stadel himself as he discusses how he got into the mind of the characters and how he feels about the role.
You can watch the video below. One thing is for sure: Commander Ismiril certainly looks the part.
If you’re unfamiliar with MechWarrior 5: Clans, you may confuse it with MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries. While the two games carry the same number, they’re both completely standalone games.
Incidentally, MechWarrior is part of the Battletech franchise, an old and glorious Mech IP originally launched by FASA Corporation in 1984. If you’re familiar with the BattleTech game by Harebrained Schemes, it’s exactly the same universe.
The names BattleTech and MechWarrior are used interchangeably depending on the product. For instance, BattleTech is the name of the original tabletop miniature wargame, while the tabletop RPG is titled MechWarrior.
Similarly, Infocom’s RPG video games released between the late eighties and the early nineties were titled BattleTech, while the MechWarrior series that debuted in 1989 is known for its first-person simulator-style gameplay.
MechWarrior 5: Clans will release on October 3, 2024, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
