Damian Kubiak, the creator of Mecha Knights: Nightmare, has announced that its sequel is now officially in development.
The announcement was made on the game’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, mentioning that the developer has started working on Mecha Knights: Nightmare 2.
We also get a look at concept art for a VTOL transporter plane that is slated to appear in the sequel, as you can see below.
If you’re unfamiliar with Mecha Knights: Nightmare, it’s a mecha action game developed almost entirely as a solo project. It was released in 2021 on Steam (where it’s currently 55% off), receiving “very positive” reviews from its users.
Two DLCs have since been released, Operation Ascalon and the Raid Map Pack.
The game is explicitly inspired by several popular anime and game IPs, including Muv-Luv, Blue Gender, Armored Core, Front Mission, Earth Defence Force, and Resident Evil.
It tells the story of a mecha pilot caught in the middle of a war against a relentless army of aliens of unknown origins risking to overrun the planet.
One of the most relevant and well-received features is the extremely deep mecha customization, that lets you create your favorite Mobile Armor with a wide variety of gameplay styles.
Kubiak mentioned that the sequel will still feature the protagonist of the original game Ethan, and will portray the continuation of humanity’s struggle against the aliens. The developer has pledged to work hard “to create a bigger and better sequel in every way possible.”
Among features that he intends to add compared to the finest game, he mentions “melee weapons, loadout saving, and different leg types.”
