Marvel Rivals has launched and the folks at Netease have reason to celebrate a successful debut for its new live service hero shooter.
According to the tracking site SteamDB, the game has reached 444,286 peak concurrent users on its launch days This is notable as Steam is only one of the platforms available, with the game also launching on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, on top of the Epic Games Store.
Marvel Rivals also achieved “Mostly Positive” reviews on Steam (with about 74% positive accolades at the moment of this writing). It’s early days, but certainly, it appears that the first impression is positive.
Below you can check out a trailer introducing the initial story of the game.
Marvel Rivals is a 6v6 hero shooter featuring a large lineup of Marvel superheroes all of whom are unlocked to play without restriction. It’s free to play and it does include a battle pass, but the fact that it does not expire is a (perhaps surprisingly for this genre) player-friendly move.
It also comes with a catchy anime-like art style that’s definitely a (very welcome, at least in my personal opinion) departure from what the MCU and other Marvel games have led us to expect.
It’s currently available for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. If you’d like to learn more, you can check out our recent interview with the developers.
If you’d like to see more you can enjoy a look at Black Widow, a video featuring Iron Fist, a look at Hawkeye, a trailer showcasing Moon Knight, and the gameplay reveal of Squirrel Girl alongside the Launch Trailer featuring the theme song “Rivals ‘Til the End” performed by Chrissy Costanza, on top of Wolverine.
