Marvel Rivals, the six-versus-six hero shooter based on the popular comics, has hit 10 million players in the first 72 hours it was released.

Marvel Rivals took to X to share this massive milestone as it thanked players for joining its game. It already had a massive debut on December 6 with almost 450,000 peak concurrent players on Steam alone. Considering Marvel Rivals is also available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Epic Games, this was already an impressive milestone.

The free-to-play game features 33 Marvel heroes (and villains, for those who prefer them) in a gorgeous and quirky animated style that showcases some of the best art from the Marvel universe. The characters are all free and available from the start, ranging from lesser-known characters like Jeff the Land Shark and Squirrel Girl to major icons like Iron Man and Spider-Man.

Other characters feature versions of themselves that players might not know immediately. For example, Psylocke is based on Peach Momoko’s design for the character in Demon Days (and later when the art was used in Marvel Snap as well). The skins also include other versions of characters, some new and some throwbacks to comics and movies.

On top of the fact that every character is free, the game’s battle pass is player-friendly, too. It doesn’t expire, meaning that players can complete it at their own pace. Players who don’t want to spend money can unlock the premium currency by grinding the game and unlocking the battle pass for free. There’s even a crossover currently going on with Marvel Snap, the free-to-play Marvel mobile TCG.

Simulation Daily sat down with Marvel Rivals developers and discussed the choices they made with the game, including character design, hero selection, and the choice to go six-versus-six.
