Marathon Finally Has an Official Release Date

At long last, Bungie has officially revealed that its upcoming PvPvE survival extraction FPS, Marathon, will be releasing March 5, 2026, for Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Marathon was originally announced in May 2023 and is a multiplayer reboot of the FPS created by Bungie for the Mac in 1994. Eventually, the series released two more titles to make for a trilogy, so it is already a pretty well-established franchise.

The game places players in the shoes of a bio-cybernetic Runner who is exploring the lost colony of Tau Ceti IV. If you survive against hostile security forces, rival Runners, and the inhospitable environments of this world’s surface long enough, you’ll be rewarded with valuable loot, including new weapons and gear.

Unfortunately, since being announced, Bungie and Marathon have run into some issues, and the developers had to lay off 17% of their workforce back in July 2024. With the loss of over 100 employees in the last year, there have obviously been significant delays regarding its development, seeing the official release date finally come for players has to be a relief.

Alongside the release date reveal, the voice actor list was announced, set to include:

The game will even support fully localized dialogue for all supported languages.

It is set to launch in March 2026 for Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S with full cross-play and cross-save, proximity chat, and more, at a starting price of $39.99. To celebrate Marathon’s launch, all Destiny 2 players can claim themed rewards in the Eververse Store, with ornaments available for those who pre-order; pre-orders and Collector’s Edition are also available now.
