Today, it was finally revealed that Bungie is showing off a livestream gameplay of its newest upcoming game, Marathon, and that it’ll air this Saturday, April 12, at 7 pm EST.

Interestingly enough, it wasn’t the community, not Bungie, that revealed the time and place for the event. After participating in an extensive alternate reality game (ARG) put on by the company, thousands of community members across the world worked together to unlock the showcase date.

The livestream is set to show off a lot of information about the upcoming team-based extraction shooter, which will be the first new project from Bungie (Halo & Destiny) in over a decade. Marathon is set on a mysterious planet of Tau Ceti IV in the year 2850, placing players into the bodies of Runners, cybernetic mercenaries who have been designed to survive the planet’s harsh environments.

While exploring the lost colony that once inhabited the surface, players will search for valuable loot, including new weapons and gear. The game was originally announced in May 2023 and is a multiplayer reboot of the FPS created by Bungie for the Mac in 1994, eventually releasing two more titles to make for a trilogy.

Unfortunately, since being announced, Bungie and Marathon have run into some issues, and the developers had to lay off 17% of their workforce back in July 2024. With the loss of over 100 employees in the last year, there have obviously been significant delays regarding its development, which is why gameplay news is so encouraging for fans.

Anyone interested can tune into the live Marathon Gameplay Reveal Showcase on the devs’ official Twitch channel here. While no release date has been revealed yet, we do know it’ll be arriving on PC (Steam), Xbox Series X|S, and PS5.
