Today, Dragami Games announced that it’ll produce a brand new game in the Lollipop Chainsaw series, alongside an anime adaptation.
This is going to be done in collaboration with Taiwanese IP development firm NADA Holdings.
According to the press release, development of this completely new Lollipop Chainsaw game has already starting within this partnership, aiming to amplify the appeal of the original title.
The development team is committing to honoring the spirit of the original game and listening to fan feedback. Key developers who were involved with creating Lollipop Chainsaw are also working on the new title.
The press release adds (and I quote verbatim), that as with the original, the new title aims to recreate a world rich in dark humor. The development process will prioritize staying true to the distinctive tone and spirit of the original work, without imposing excessive creative restrictions in the name of DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion).”
If you’re wondering, the Japanese version of the press release says pretty much the same thing, just more strongly worded, explicitly mentioning a pledge to avoid censorship.
If you’re unfamiliar with Lollipop Chainsaw, the original game launched in 2012 for PS3 and Xbox 360, with names like Goichi “Suda 51” Suda, James Gunn, and Akira Yamaoka within its staff.
It acquired a rather active cult following, and it was remastered as Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP in 2024 by Dragami Games for PC, PS5, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
Incidentally, the press release mentions that the remaster was well received by the audience, and the series as a whole has sold 1.5 million units.
A new X account has also been opened today, promising production updates as time goes on.
Incidentally, if you’re unfamiliar with NADA Holdings, they’re an IP development, investment, production, and management firm based in Taipei, Taiwan.
Lately, it announced the Traditional Chinese version of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIV for the Taiwanese market.
