Earlier this week, Tencent and Polaris Quest announced that they would be making a brand-new open-world multiplayer survival game for PS5, mobile, and PC. Light of Motiram is set in a world dominated by mechanical beasts, combining the aspects of crafting and boss fights to let players build and defend their own civilizations.
You can check out some of the gameplay elements and the official trailer and screenshots for Light of Motiram right down below:
- Surviving in a Land of Bark and Iron – Befriend mechanimals to help with travel, combat, logging, farming, and crafting so your settlement can thrive.
- Building a Thriving Sanctuary – Use the realistic freeform building system and place each unique brick to create fortified stronghold, a cleverly designed hidden shelter, or a massive city for your and your friends to call home.
- Toppling Giants in Colossal Combat – Go one-on-one or in co-op groups to defeat a slew of giant mechanical enemies in combat for parts and components using the dodging, blocking, and counter-attacking combat system.
The elephant in the room regarding the title is that it looks exactly like the Horizon series had a baby with Monster Hunter. Whether you’re comparing the feature photos of Horizon Forbidden West and Light of Motiram or the almost identical-looking machines or even the style of the boss encounters to Monster Hunter, it is hard to debate that these games look very similar.
Earlier this year, the gaming industry saw a similar issue regarding copying prominent gameplay and character features with the release of Palworld, which drew comparisons to Pokémon. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company are currently in the midst of a patent infringement lawsuit and have moved to sue the developer, Pocketpair.
There is no guarantee that Sony will take action against Tencent for Light of Motiram, but considering how much of an overlap there is between the two games already, it seems like a strong possibility. Currently, there is no release date for the title.
